A blog about one of our favorite things…and his favorite things. Kind of a random idea for a blog post, but what the heck…it’s our blog. We can do what we want. So, without further ado, here is Dash’s top 10!
#10 Attention
Dash wants to be your friend. You’d think we keep him locked up in a dungeon the way he acts like he never gets any attention. Corgis are EXTREMELY social dogs and LOVE being around big groups of people (and herding those people into the same room). Anytime we have big groups over and are forced to put him away (usually while we’re eating) he can’t stand it. All he wants to do is love on everyone that ever was. I seriously think that is his life goal. To love everyone and everything. Something we should all strive for huh?
#9 Sticks
I submit this photo as evidence
…and will note the many times he’s dragged a stick back with him from a bathroom trip only to look broken-hearted when I say “You can’t bring that in the house”
A stick graveyard at our doorstep is not uncommon.
#8 Cowbone
Watching this mini dog carry a cowbone around the house that’s as big as his head is a truly comedic sight. He’s learned how to stand it up on end for maximum gnaw-age. The other night, I had forgotten he’d brought it with him into the bedroom. Shortly after I turned off the lights I hear the unimstakeable sound of dog teeth chewing on bone. I flick on the light and there he is. Sprawled out in the floor in his “power chewing” position going to town on his cowbone.
#7 Playing fetch
He wasn’t a big fetch guy until he started spending a bunch of time at Matt & Erin’s. Us not having a yard limited our fetch abilities. But now that we have a yard of our own, it’s become an almost daily ritual (and a most excellent way to tire him out)
#6 Belly Rubs
Nothing puts him to sleep faster than a belly rub. He will go from wide awake to dreamland in 0.62 seconds.
#5 His KONG bed
At first he couldn’t figure out how to lay on it and was frustrated to the point of barking at it and laying across it sideways with head and feet overhanging. But once he figured it out, it was all over. He realized that edges were meant for propping up his head and thus a whole new world was opened up. I should note that Mom & Dad love it too because you can take the cover off and wash it. That’s always a win in our book.
#4 Playing with his best buddies (Dewey & Dexter)
Dash’s BFF is his biological brother Dewey (owned by our fellow corgi lovers Matt & Erin) They also have another Corgi, Dexter, but usually Dash & Dewey are rough-housing for hours on end while Dexter referees.
#3 Cuddling (preferably on the chaise)
When we bought our couch from IKEA we were convinced that he would miss the old furniture. Not so. He immediately claimed the new one as his. If one or both of us are cuddling on the chaise, he will happily join. Sometimes at break-neck speed, hurling toward us like a furry torpedo.
#2 FOOD
And his #2 favorite thing of all is….FOOD! His daily kibble, any kind of treat, any kind of human food (which we don’t feed him), ice, puke, poop…whatever. He will literally eat anything. First time we took him camping, I caught him chewing on rocks. There’s this inside jokes among corgi owners that they will eat until their stomachs explode. Dash has had his food monitored since day 1 and he sits at an ideal 27 lbs. He also trolls the house for crumbs. Constantly. He can hear a crumb hit the carpet from across the house.
#1 Mom & Dad
Yeah yeah yeah. This one is a given. He loves us both dearly and is visibly upset when one of us isn’t home when he thinks we should be. Yes, he has our schedules memorized and knows the days of the week…it’s downright scary sometimes. We are without a doubt his favorite two people in the world and he makes no effort in hiding that at all. Without us, he’d be…well, probably in someone else’s kitchen trolling for crumbs.
Actually, we’re probably only #1 because he knows we control #2
Chime in dog owners! What are your dog’s favorite things?
Erin @ Brownie Bites says
I’m in love with this post. It’s so funny how similar (and different, I’m looking at YOU, Dexter) dogs within this breed are. Replace #9 with “Mulch” and keep the rest the same and you pretty much have Dewey, ha. We call Dewey’s power chewing stance his “hamster hands” since his lil’ white hands look like a hamster’s when they hold onto a peanut or something.
.. and that pic of Dash with the massive stick is one of my favorite pictures of him ever. That has got to be, like, the best moment of his life.

I LOVE that pic too! You can practically hear his thoughts….”Life….life is good, man”
