Bringing back the ol’ Friday Favorites tradition, but with a different take. Instead of focusing on a few of our favorite things of late in terms of products, I thought we’d take the opportunity to focus on what’s going on in our life, what we’re reading, what we’re watching, what projects intrigue us right now, etc. A little insight into the life and times of K&R, what’s on our minds if you will. And because Fridays. We love Fridays. Who doesn’t?
- That guy up there – our D-man – Dash turned 5 years old at the end of last month! Happy Birthday, buddy. He’s our first son and we love him dearly.
- Speaking of hitting middle age – Dash seems to be having some joint issues. So we’ve started him on Dasuquin with MSM for doggies. Anyone else with corgis have luck with adding a joint supplement to their diet?
- Holy Freaking Mad Men. It’s coming to a close and all the feels have been felt as characters are slowly departing. It feels like the slowest death of your favorite family member and you are being forced to watch it over the course of a few weeks. But it’s soooo good. You can feel the tension in the show and you begin to wonder how pieces from the beginning are fitting in now that we’re at the bitter end. Uproxx does a great recap following each new episode…SPOILER ALERT if you click that link.
- The creators of Mad Men have really curated a brand out of the name, nailing everything from that era down to the make-up of each actress and the hair products used on the actors. In fact, my husband got his hair trimmed and his stylist used the actual hair paste from the set of Mad Men. Crazy.
- Tony Horton’s diet. For years we’ve said the man must be a robot with how meticulous he seems with his diet. Then someone followed him and his eating habits around for a day to learn the truth. He may be a cyborg – half human, half robot. But he’s not perfect and he does reward himself occasionally. I feel better about that pizza and ice cream I ate last weekend.
- Who wants to buy a bakery for $75??
- Anyone remember The Wire on HBO from a looong time ago? Okay, so not THAT long ago – the first season was in 2002. It’s a police drama based in Baltimore. We’ve started watching it, into season 3 now and REALLY getting into it. It’s such a good show. The scary part is that it’s somewhat autobiographical with characters based on real life police officers and criminals.
- Have you tried Birchbox yet? We’re both obsessed in this household. I purchased one month as a gift for Rem and wasn’t sure if he’d stick with it or not, but he loves it! Basically, each month you get a box of 5-6 samples. Women’s boxes include everything from hair and make-up to fragrances, lotion, nail polish and foodie treats for $10. Men’s boxes have 3-5 samples, plus one regular size item like a water bottle, cool tech gadget, basic tees, etc. all for $20. It’s exciting to open a little surprise in the mail each month – beats just getting bills in the mail every day.
- Not sure how I feel about learning that I only need to shower every couple of days.
- I got a rollerball of this tropical scent from Illume in a limited edition box from Birchbox and it reminds me of our recent trip to Thailand. It’s so light, airy and slightly sweet.
- These cotton candy Oreo cupcakes. I need them in my life. Have you tried Oreo’s latest flavor?
- I love fish tacos, so I’m all about these fish taco nachos.
- Just when you thought coffee couldn’t get any better, someone had to go and make sweetened condensed coconut milk to serve with it. Ridiculous.
- Have a giant cookie for one, ya know when a mug brownie just won’t do.
- This Pinata cake is so genius and gorgeous. Why am I not this creative??
- Speaking of cakes, I made this apple spice bundt cake again for the hubs birthday. It’s an Alton Brown recipe and it’s a winner. Everyone will ask, “what is that unique spice?” And you can tell them grains of paradise.
- Biscuit Fest is this Saturday in downtown Knoxville. In the few years it’s been an annual tradition it has become a huge festival that draws tons from all over the south to our little neck of the woods. We wrote up a blog post from the 4th annual Biscuit Fest we checked out a few years back.
- Spring, longer days and warmer weather has brought out a renewed interest in sprucing up our outdoor space. We picked up these chairs, a side table and rug at World Market on sale. Love having a quiet spot to chill in our back yard.
- We’ll be spending our weekend spreading mulch! It’s that time of year. What are you guys doing??
