It’s that time of the week again! Friday!
So, we frequent Trader Joe’s quite a bit. We love their stuff and their business model. More importantly, we have yet to come across anything unreasonably priced there. So, here’s some of our favorite things from Trader Joe’s, but honestly we’ve yet to try anything that was really bad.
Mediterranean Greek Yogurt Dip: we’ve shared this one before on a Friday favorites list, but we love it so much we are sharing it again!
Raw Almonds for $4.99. We eat these almost daily as a healthy snack, so we looooove the price tag and the fact that they have no added salt! Gotta keep that sodium in check. You will not find a pound of almonds cheaper anywhere else.
Three-layer hummus: Hummus is a staple in our household. It’s a tasty snack, and it’s actually not bad for you. TJ’s takes it upon themselves to cram three awesome flavors into one container. Is this a good idea? No. It’s a fantastic idea.
Trader Joe’s Dried Chile Spiced Mango: Their plain dried unsulfured mango is great too, but when your snack needs a little kick, grab these. Spicy and sweet, you bet! The Chile spice they use also has a slightly smokey flavor, which adds a level of depth to the dried mango. It’s definitely different, so it may not be for everyone, but we enjoy it.
Reduced-Guilt Spinach & Kale Greek Yogurt Dip: This dip reminds me of the spinach dip that my family used to make for almost every get-together. You know the stuff. The recipe is on the back of the onion dip packet and it HAS to be served in a Hawaiian bread bowl. You eat it until you end up puking it up later. No? That’s just me? Well, this dip is even better, mainly because it’s healthier. I love that it has kale in it and you can taste the fresh veggies – carrots, water chestnuts, red peppers, green onions. It goes great with carrots for a healthy snack during the day. It’s also awesome with tortilla chips.
Ridge Cut Sweet Potato Chips: Here is what I love – the ingredients. Sweet Potatoes, Oil (and it’s not vegetable oil or hydrogenated oil or something crazy like that) and Salt. Simple. You don’t have to have all of those preservatives and words you cannot pronounce for a chip to taste good. So while I could probably make something similar myself at home, why when you can just buy these?
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: When you don’t want to splurge on Ghiradelli chocolate chips, buy TJ’s. They are not just plain old semi-sweet chips. No, no, no. They have a slightly smokey, rich dark flavor. In fact, the secret to our chocolate frosting is these chocolate chips!
Power to the Greens: As mentioned here, I like to put spinach in my protein shake every morning to get an extra punch of vitamins, minerals and serving of vegetables. Kale would be a better choice because it’s packed with so many more nutrients and protein, but I don’t like the texture kale gives to my shake since it’s a heftier leaf. Enter TJ’s Power to the Greens and problem solved! It blends the best of both worlds with baby kale and spinach. It makes a great salad too!
Dark Chocolate Bars Filled with Speculoos: quite possibly one of the most decadent things we’ve treated ourselves with on a weekend. The hubs and I split this bar and savored every bite of it. The Belgium dark chocolate will not disappoint – it’s top notch as you’d expect and the smooth, creamy cookie filling is the perfect counterpart. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
Like Trader Joe’s? What sort of neat stuff have you found there?
This is not a sponsored post. We are not affiliated with Trader Joe’s nor did they pay us for our opinion. We just love them and their products!

Trader Joe’s…where to begin? Beer…that’s a good place to start. I recently picked up a 6 pack of the Joseph Brau’s Vienna style lager, and it was really good, and only $7. Reminded me of Sam Adams Octoberfest.
I will second the cookie butter candy bars…pick two up every visit (one for me, one for the wife!) Also, some good sweet treats, I love their Toasted Coconut Cookie Thins, and also the Stroopwafels (I think they’re labeled Caramel Bites, they’re from Holland and not a Trader Joe’s brand). And let’s not forget the Apple Cinnamon sticks…they’re like mini churros in a bag! And for a salty-sweet treat, the sea salt and turbinado sugar dark chocolate almonds are great.
On the salsa front, their Pineapple salsa is a nice blend of spice and sweet, and the “Cowboy Caviar” is a thick, chunky salsa that gets hotter as you eat it.
Another staple that comes in handy when we don’t have time to cook a lot of stuff for dinner is the frozen Mandarin Orange Chicken. Heat the chicken in the oven, then toss it in a bowl with the included sauce, add some steamed broccoli and put it over a bag of the Trader Joe’s frozen Jasmine rice (heated in the microwave) and you have a delicious Chinese dinner with minimal effort.

We have tried a few of their beers that have been pretty good, especially considering the price tag.
On the sweets front – we’ve yet to have a bad cookie. The pinachios and kona coffee shortbread are two faves. We recently tried the pear tarte and it was very good – a hint of almond in the crust (but at over $6 it’s a bit pricey for TJ’s).
We’ve had the Cowboy Caviar and that stuff is addicting; we’ll have to give the pineapple salsa a try.
We have not given their Asian dinners a spin around the block yet, but we’ve tried many of the Mexican entrees and recently tried a few of the Indian dinners. All have been great, but the Indian was almost straight out of Taj, especially the Naan.
And now I’m hungry! 🙂
