Tender Beef & Broccoli with a rich brown sauce is super easy to accomplish in an Instant Pot pressure cooker! We added shishito peppers to our recipe for some extra pizzazz in the flavor department!
Simple Asian dishes like Chinese fried rice, chicken stir fry, and Korean beef bowls are some of our favorites on regular rotation for dinner. They are easy to prepare and reheat throughout the week, plus they can be adjusted to be pretty healthy weeknight meals. Beef & Broccoli is a bit of a weeknight splurge for us because we don’t eat a ton of red meat, however, buying a leaner cut of meat and allowing our Instant Pot do the work for us has made it possible to enjoy this dish more often at home.
We got our Instant Pot when it was on sale for Black Friday two years ago on Amazon. It’s the 6 quart 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, the 8 quart is the closest one available now. We really should use it more often – it’s a great kitchen appliance! The thing even makes yogurt, which we’ve yet to try!
We were totally freaked out like most people the first time we used it, so I definitely recommend doing the test run mentioned in the instructions the very first time you use it. We felt much more confident actually cooking in it after that and less fearful that it would blow our house up. Hahaha.

Instant Pot Beef & Broccoli
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 lbs lean beef we used pre-cut fajita strips
- 1 small onion
- 5 cloves garlic
- 20 + shishito peppers
- 6 Tbsp beef broth + 2 Tbsp
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- pinch red pepper flakes
- 1 lb broccoli florets
- 1 Tbsp corn starch
- sesame seeds
Instructions
- Season beef with salt and pepper. With the instant pot set to saute, add olive oil and brown beef on both sides in batches. Set aside and saute onion, garlic and peppers for 1-2 minutes.
- Add 6 Tbsp beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes to the pot. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Add browned beef and any accumulated juices. Select High Pressure. Set timer for 12 minutes.
- In the meantime, steam broccoli on the stove top or in the microwave until just tender.
- When timer goes off turn pressure cooker off and use quick pressure release. When valve drops carefully remove the lid.
- In a cup combine cornstarch and remaining beef broth; stir until smooth. Add to pressure cooker pot. Stir well to combine. Select browning or saute and stir until sauce comes to a boil and thickens. Add steamed broccoli.
- Serve over hot, cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds.
